Spring burning restrictions are now in place for 25 Minnesota counties, and take effect tomorrow (Wed) in 14 more. Leanne Langeberg with the Interagency Fire Center in Grand Rapids says warm temperatures and high winds on several recent days increase danger of wildfires:
“Any spark to dry vegetation potentially could take off, and with those winds could spread rather quickly.”
Statewide fire danger and current burning restrictions are updated daily on the Minnesota D-N-R’s website.
If you have to dispose of yard waste, officials recommend composting, chipping, or taking brush to a collection site.
Initial counties with burning restrictions: Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Itasca, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake and Roseau counties.
Counties added Monday to the burn restriction list: Becker, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Hubbard, Norman, Otter Tail, Pope, Stevens, Traverse, Wadena and Wilkin.
Burn restrictions begin Wednesday (3/31) in these counties: Anoka, Benton, Chisago, Hennepin, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Ramsey, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd, Washington and Wright.
