Vergas House Distroyed in Fire, Caused by Making Maple Syrup

At approximately 5:11 Monday evening, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a structure fire at, 50771 East Lake Seven Road, near Vergas.

After investigation, it was determined that the fire was started from a maple syrup boiler in the driveway, then proceeded into the residence.

No injuries were reported and the house was a total loss.

The Vergas Fire Department was assisted by the Perham and Detroit Lakes Fire Departments.
