Walz Announces 1 Million Minnesotans Are Fully Vaccinated For COVID

(St. Paul, MN)  —  Governor Tim Walz says that one-million Minnesotans have completed the vaccination process.  As eligibility expands to everyone age 16 and older Tuesday, Minnesota continues ramping up vaccine efforts.

State health officials reported more than 70-thousand vaccines were administered Saturday and Sunday – the two highest days on record.

The seven-day average for doses administered is now at an all-time high of more than 44-thousand.

A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the last required dose of vaccine.

Even as Minnesota hits the one-million vaccination mark and eligibility expands to everyone 16 and older,  the state’s COVID case-positive rate is back over the five-percent caution threshold.

Five-point-two percent of new tests for COVID-19 are coming back positive, significantly less than the peak of over 15 percent in mid-November, but still of concern to state health officials.

They point to a substantial increases in cases attributable to COVID variants in some areas of Minnesota and stress, as the weather gets warmer, it’s still important to mask-up and social-distance.

One report shows mask wearing in public is down slightly from February, at 74 percent.
