(St. Paul, MN)  —  National Guard soldiers from Ohio and Nebraska are in Minnesota to assist with security following the verdict in the Chauvin trial.

Governor Tim Walz declared a peacetime emergency in the seven-county metro area Monday and requested mutual aid from those two states.  Walz said, “as the world awaits a verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin, we need support in our efforts to preserve the First Amendment right of peaceful protests while protecting public safety.”

The Minnesota Senate approved nine-million dollars for law enforcement’s response to recent civil unrest and also two-point-75-million dollars for resources from other states.
