Crews Clear Barricades From ‘George Floyd Square’ in South Minneapolis

By Dave Bishop Jun 3, 2021 | 11:32 AM

Crews are removing traffic barriers this morning (Thursday) at 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in south Minneapolis–known as George Floyd Square.

The intersection has been the site of a memorial to Floyd since he died there in police custody last May.  The group Agape Movement said the barricades were being removed for security reasons as well as to promote healing in the community.

The fist sculpture and other memorial items will remain at the site.

City leaders say they are committed to creating a permanent memorial for Floyd in the area.
