(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is signing a tax cut bill passed by the Minnesota House and Senate this morning (Thursday).
Republican Senator Carla Nelson from Rochester claims some lawmakers were still pushing for tax hikes and said, “I’m glad to tell you today that you will not find those tax increases in this bill.”
But Saint Paul Democrat Erin Murphy says many Minnesotans still struggling from the pandemic need help. Murphy says the bill falls short of what I think we could be doing together, “to make sure that every single Minnesotan — every single one — is participating fully in their own lives and in our economy.”
The bill includes state tax relief for businesses that took federal Paycheck Protection Program loans during the pandemic — and up to 10-thousand-200 dollars of individuals’ unemployment benefits are also exempt from state income tax.
