On Tuesday, at 2:38 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary in progress at a vacant farm site in Gorton Township.

When deputies arrived on scene, the property owners stated they found and spoke with a young male who was sitting in the passenger seat of a black Chevrolet Impala. When the young male was questioned as to what he was doing, he got into the driver’s seat of the vehicle and left the farm site traveling south.

The property owners also revealed to deputies that they had trail camera photos of a second person believed to be involved in the burglary.

A perimeter was set up covering a one square mile area around the farm site as deputies from Grant, Traverse, Wilkin and Stevens Counties responded.

While a Stevens County Deputy was responding, he came across the vehicle that had left the scene traveling north on a gravel road approximately 2 ½ miles away from where the burglary had occurred. The Stevens County Deputy along with a Grant County Deputy stopped the vehicle and arrested the young male driver.

A search for the second suspect continued, using resources such as a K-9 from Stevens County Sheriff’s Office and a drone from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

After a four hour search, the second suspect was eventually located in a cornfield approximately ½ to ¾ miles south of where the burglary had occurred.

Both suspects were taken to the Traverse County Jail.
