Free Desktop Computers Distributed by Otter Tail County

Otter Tail County, MN – Otter Tail County residents without personal access to computers received free desktop computers and digital literacy resources thanks to Otter Tail County, Viking Library System, PCs for People, and the Blandin Foundation. A total of 50 desktop computers were distributed as a part of the project.

Otter Tail County Commissioner Wayne Johnson noted, “Access to technology is increasingly important for attending school, gaining employment and even seeking medical care. While this program does not solve the digital inequities that exist in Otter Tail County, it is a meaningful step to promote digital inclusion.”

“PCs for People is thrilled to partner with Otter Tail County to support families receiving technology. The longstanding partnership between PCs for People and the Blandin Foundation allows us to work with communities across the state to provide access to technology,” said Mary Lucic, Community Outreach & Fundraising Manager for PCs for People. The desktop computers come with a year of free technical support from PCs for People.

“Viking Library System’s mission is to connect people with the information they need. This project allowed us to connect 50 families in Otter Tail County to the internet and digital literacy resources from Fergus Falls Adult Basic Education that will help them expand their knowledge of technology,” said Erin Smith, Viking Library System Director.

The distribution is a part of broader efforts by Otter Tail County to bridge the digital divide and advance local broadband initiatives as a Blandin Broadband Community. Otter Tail County and Viking Library System staff helped run the desktop computer distribution event on June 24 and 25, which was held in the parking lot outside the Viking Library System headquarters offices in Fergus Falls.
