The Fergus Falls Fire Department responded at 3:31, Thursday morning, for a residential fire at 503 Peck Street.
The resident states he awoke because of his cat and found the home filled with smoke. He and his cat were able to evacuate prior to police and fire department arrival.
Firefighters arrived to a single-story home with fire along an exterior wall. Firefighters removed the siding to gain access to the fire, which was burning within the stud bays of the exterior wall.
Firefighters also worked inside the home to check for extension.
The fire was controlled within 15 minutes of arrival with damage isolated to the exterior wall and kitchen of the home. The area where the fire originated had moderate fire and water damage.
The entire home had smoke damage.
The Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Fergus Falls Police Department, Ringdahl EMS, OtterTail Power Company, and the Red Cross.
Damage is estimated $20,000.
The Fire Department continues to investigate the cause of the fire.
The Fire Department responded with 2 Engine’s, 1 Ladder Truck, 1 Rescue Truck, and 3 Command Staff.
No injuries were reported.
