(KDLM) – A woman has been arrested in connection to a deadly crash in the Twin Cities this past August that killed a Perham woman.
Abby Anderson, a 2010 Perham High School graduate was walking near the University of Minnesota soccer fields in Falcon Heights on Aug. 14, 2021 when a truck crashed into a parked car, sending both vehicles into Anderson. She was struck again when the driver made a U-turn to flee the scene.
Anderson later passed away at Regions Hospital. The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as 45-year-old Melinda Jean Dotray, of Preston, Minnesota. She was arrested via warrant and charged with manslaughter, criminal vehicular homicide and drug possession.
Deputies found methamphetamine in the glove box of her vehicle while lab results revealed the presence of amphetamine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and norfentanyl in Dotray’s blood at the time of the crash.
Anderson was a 2010 graduate of Perham High School. She was a part of the state championship 4x800m relay team in 2006, was the runner-up in the 1600m race in 2008, and helped the cross country team reach the state meet multiple times. She was later run cross-country for the University of Minnesota.
Anderson ran in the 2019 New York Marathon to honor her late sister, Gabe Grunewald. Grunewald, who was a track star for Team USA and the University of Minnesota, passed away in 2019 after a ten-year fight with adenoid cystic carcinoma.
