DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – MAHUBE-OTWA is encouraging Lakes Area residents within its 5 county service area to participate in an Annual Point in Time Homeless Count.
The nonprofit is asking residents who know someone who is homeless or will be homeless on Wednesday, January 26 to complete an observation form on their website.
Many of the homeless go unnoticed in the Lakes Area and the PIT count helps identify how many are in the area says Cera Swiftwater-Hayes, Crisis Prevention Program manager at MAHUBE-OTWA, “the count includes both sheltered and unsheltered”.
Many of the Lakes Area homeless population spend their evenings in abandoned buildings, fish houses, their vehicles or even couch hopping.
The Point in Time surveys may be completed any time after 5pm on Wednesday, January 26 through Friday, January 28 and returned to MAHUBE-OTWA at Mahube.org
