This Saturday, there will be a memorial benefit for Ron Smith, a New York Mills police officer, who passed away in December.
New York Mills’ Melanie Berg, who is organizing the event with a group of other residents, said, “He was absolutely amazing. I can’t even express the kind of man he was and that is half the reason why we are holding this benefit…one to help his family, but also to give our community the closure and the opportunity to share these stories about Ron.”
The event will take place at the New York Mills Ballroom on Saturday from 11a-4p. In addition to the opportunity to be a part of light conversation and story-telling, there will also be potato soup and chili served, silent and live auctions, games, raffle drawings and more.
Berg mentioned that they are looking for volunteers too. She said, “You can come up to the City Hall here in New York Mills before 11am and let us know that you’re ready and willing to give us a hand and we’ll definitely put you to work.”
People who are unable to attend this weekend’s benefit, who want to make a donation to Officer Smith’s family, can do so through Farmers and Merchants State Bank in New York Mills.
