Design Unveiled for City of Fergus Falls Sesquicentennial Commemorative Coins

By Dave Bishop Feb 10, 2022 | 11:56 AM

In 2022 the City of Fergus Falls will turn 150, and to celebrate the Sesquicentennial there will be commemorative coins.  The silver and copper coins will be minted by America’s oldest private mint, Osborne Coinage, out of Cincinnati, Ohio.

The coins feature the iconic “Otto” the Otter from Grotto Park.  Otto was a gift to the city for the centennial.

The reverse image features the original falls with a concept of the woods meeting the prairie at the river. George B. Wright’s “The Coming City of the Northwest” that was used in advertising during the city’s early years will be featured on the river side.

The first run of coins will include 100 .999 pure silver coins that will be available for $45 a coin, and 500 .999 pure copper coins available for $6 a coin.  Both the silver and copper coins will be made available for purchase starting on May 1st at the Otter Tail County Historical Society gift shop and Victor Lundeen Company.  All proceeds will benefit the Otter Tail County Historical Society.

There will be a special early giveaway starting on March 1st with the drawing on March 15th.  There will be 1 grand prize winner that will win 1 pure silver coin, and 9 runner-up winners that will each win a pure copper coin. The tentative presentation of the coins to the winners will be on March 30th.

Drawing entry boxes will be posted at sponsor location (in-person only)
