Flooding Could Be Less Severe in Red River Valley This Year

(Grand Forks, ND) — There’s a bit of a silver lining in the National Weather Service’s forecast for possible spring flooding along the Red River in Minnesota and North Dakota.

While the late winter outlook calls for higher chances of significant flooding in the Fargo-Moorhead area, lingering drought conditions have left more room for melting snow to seep into the ground.

And several of this winter’s blizzards didn’t bring in as much new snowfall as in years past.

Fargo and Moorhead were last threatened by flood waters in 2019.
