Saturday it took five area fire departments to get a fire southwest of New York Mills under control.
The homeowner was burning stumps near an abandoned/tore down home and the fire spread to the structure.
The homeowner reported the incident. Before the fire department’s arrival the fire had ignited a grassy area, and due to the strong winds the fire spread quickly, burning several acers of land to the northwest.
The New York Mills, Perham, Bluffton, Deer Creek, and Ottertail Fire Departments responded and were able to extinguish the fire.
There were no injuries, and the fire is being investigated by the Otter Tail County Sherriff’s Department, Minnesota DNR, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
