NEVIS (MNN) – An 11-year-old boy is leading the effort to bring a skate park to the city of Nevis.
Liam Gustafson’s birthday wish last year was to build one in his hometown. His mother, Heidi, says the goal is to raise $275,000, “To date we’ve raised just over $34,000. We just started fundraising in the beginning of June. So he’s come a long ways in a just couple of months. We’re aiming high because we would want the concrete bowl that can be built into the ground because of little to zero maintenance it would basically last forever.”
Liam made his birthday wish while celebrating at a skate park in Bemidji which is an hour away. He’s received approval from the Nevis City Council for the site and is waiting to hear if the project will receive a state grant.
He even participated in a virtual hearing of the Minnesota House Capital Investment Committee on state funding for skate parks.
