(St. Paul, MN) — A man from Red Lake is sentenced to 37 years in federal prison, after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting death of Red Lake Tribal Police Officer Ryan Bialke.
Prosecutors say five officers were attempting to serve a warrant at the residence of 28-year-old David Donnell Junior when he opened fire, striking Bialke who died at the scene.
One officer returned fire to allow the other officers to escape into the woods, but Bialke continued firing at them, investigators say for a total of at least 22 shots.
The judge at sentencing called it a “senseless crime” and extended condolences to Officer Bialke’s family.
