Underwood Girls’ Basketball Team is going to Class A State Tournament
Underwood Rockets make history with a 64-52 victory over Hancock Owls in the Section 6A championship game, sending them to the Class A State Girls’ Basketball Tournament.
The Rockets had a dominant second half, overcoming a six-point halftime deficit to outscore their opponents 37-19 in the final two quarters.
Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland praised the team’s defensive switch and outstanding shooting in the second half, as well as the energy of the crowd at Otter Fieldhouse in Fergus Falls.
Liz Lukken led the Rockets with 24 points, followed by Mo Bugbee with 21 and Kallyn Grove with 17.
They will face off against the Section 5A champion, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, in the opening round at 1:00pm on Thursday at Maturi Pavilion.
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, with an impressive 25-4 record and an eight-game winning streak, swept through their section tournament with ease, defeating Bertha-Hewitt, Pine River-Backus, Walker-Hackensack-Akeley, and Barnum.
Barnesville Boys’ Basketball
Barnesville Trojans beat the Fergus Falls Otters 72-61 in the 8AA Playoffs
Fergus Falls completes the season with a record of 7-20.
Barnesville Trojans win 48-43 against second-seeded Perham advancing them to the semifinal round of Section 8AA playoffs.
Hancock Boys’ Basketball
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa wins 24-4 over the Hancock Owls.
BBE will play Border West on Wednesday against Glenwood.
Hillcrest Boys’ Basketball
Henning Hornets advance with 6A Playoff beating Hilcrest Lutheran Academy 27-1.
Hillcrest ends the season with a record of 20 wins, 8 losses.
Hawley Boys’ Basketball
Hawley Nuggets win 74-54 against Wadena-Deer-Creek in Section 8AA Quarterfinals.
Wadena-Deer Creek ends the season with a record of 20 wins,8 losses.
Pelican Rapids Boys’ Basketball
Pelican Rapids Vikings end the season in a loss against the Theif River Falls Prowlers 78-63.
Pelican Rapids ends the season with a record of 14-14.
Battle Lake Boys’ Basketball
Battle Lake Battlers win 91-57 against Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal Titans, advancing to the Sub-Section 6AChampionship game where they play the Henning Hornets.
Spartan Baseball
First game on Monday at the RussMatt Invitational in Orlando, Florida recorded a 13-11 win for M State against Prairie State.
In the second game, Prairie State College won 11-1 against M State.
