The City of Fergus Falls is looking for local artists for its Downtown Riverfront, with Phase II of the project set to kick off this spring.
The development will include a range of updates, including a patio area, splash pad, food truck hookups, native landscaping, and a bathroom and changing room for visitors to the splash pad.
The project is also set to be fully ADA accessible.
One exciting addition to the project will be public art, thanks to a $100,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, matched by a contribution from the Dell Trust.
The city is now seeking proposals from artists located within 100 miles of Fergus Falls, with submissions due by 5pm on March 24, 2023.
Fergus Falls is already well-known for its thriving arts community, and the city is looking forward to seeing the ideas that come forward for Phase II of the Downtown Riverfront project.
The call is open to a wide range of artists, and the city is hoping to receive proposals that celebrate the community and its unique character.
The project is expected to have a significant impact on the downtown area, helping to attract visitors and support local businesses.
Klara Beck, Community Development Manager shared, “Fergus Falls and the surrounding area is home to artists with incredibly varied mediums and interests, and the selection committee has intentionally crafted the call language in a way that doesn’t restrict proposals to certain mediums. “
There will be two sculpture pads installed as a part of Phase II, but the call indicates that all forms of art utilizing any of the project area will be considered.
Community Development Manager Beck also added, “The request is simply that any medium submitted be durable and able to withstand our harsh Minnesota climate.”
With Phase II set to break ground soon, Fergus Falls residents can look forward to enjoying a revitalized riverfront area in the near future.
