A tragic accident on a snow-covered freeway in east of Fergus Falls claimed the life of a Minneapolis woman on Friday afternoon.
The State Patrol responded to the scene along eastbound I-94, by mile post 72, between the Fergus Falls and Alexandria exits, after the deadly crash was reported at around 1 p.m.
According to the state crash report, an eastbound transit van veered off the roadway and rolled over. The sole passenger in the vehicle, 67-year-old Sandra Hill, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The van’s driver, 56-year-old Bryan Sorenson of Williston, North Dakota, fortunately escaped unscathed.
Both Hill and Sorenson were wearing seat belts, and the report indicates that alcohol was not a contributing factor in the crash.
At the time of the incident, troopers noted that the freeway was covered in snow and ice, suggesting that poor weather conditions played a role in the tragic accident.
As the investigation continues, authorities urge drivers to exercise caution and remain vigilant during winter weather conditions to prevent further accidents.
