Just before 3:30 Saturday afternoon an Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle that was reported stolen from Pelican Rapids. The vehicle was observed south bound on Highway 59 between Erhard and Elizabeth.
The driver, later identified as 29-year-old Luan Huynh of Fargo, did not stop and accelerated away causing a short pursuit that was immediately terminated due to public safety concerns after the driver just about struck a vehicle head on while trying to escape.
Deputies observed the vehicle a short time later, and after a second short pursuit, they were able to apprehend the Huynh in a wooded area after he fled from the vehicle in an abandoned farm site south of Rothsay.
The driver Luan Huynh, was arrested on Felony level motor vehicle theft, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, and controlled substance DWI, and reckless driving.
Huynh is currently in the Otter Tail County Jail awaiting formal charges.
No one was injured during the pursuit and the vehicle was not damaged in any way and ultimately returned to the owners.
