(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz this afternoon (Thursday 1:30pm) signs a bill that will make paid family and medical leave available to all Minnesotans through a state-run program funded by employer and employee contributions.

Workers could take up to 12 weeks of family leave and up to 12 weeks of medical leave, with a maximum of 20 weeks per calendar year.

Bill sponsors say employers with less than 30 employees could get reduced premiums, and many employers with fewer than ten employees would pay no premiums at all.

The program will start collecting premiums and benefits will be available beginning January 1st, 2026.
