Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office held SWAT training in New York Mills area on Wednesday
Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – Members of the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office held a multi-agency SWAT training in the New York Mills area on Wednesday.
Otter Tail County Chief Deputy Reed Reinbold said these trainings are important for all of the agencies involved to be prepared in case the worst-case scenario occurs.
“It’ll be the first time we’ve worked with New York Mills (firefighters), Astera Health ambulance and Perham ambulance all at once on this type of drill”,” said Reinbold. “And we’re working on some evacuation techniques with firefighters and EMS,” said Reinbold. “So, it’ll be a good training and good to practice some of these things that we may have to deal with.”
The training will also include an active-shooter drill at a New York Mills area business.
Detroit Lakes law enforcement is planning its own multi-agency SWAT training to be conducted with Detroit Lakes High School. The training will occur June 12-13
Mark Jenson, superintendent for Detroit Lakes Public Schools, said their training will also involve local and state first responders.
“We have a group from Louisiana coming up and they are going to be working with highway patrol and with city and county,” said Jenson.
An active-shooter drill at Detroit Lakes High School is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 9.
