The Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls is set to host a grand celebration marking its 25th anniversary, on Saturday, June 24, 2023.
The day will start with a rousing Stars and Stripes Parade at 10 a.m., as a nod to the upcoming Independence Day festivities.
This annual tradition is expected to attract a large crowd, including 180 current and former Veterans Home leaders and employees, 75 veteran residents, eight veteran spouses, 32 home volunteers, as well as numerous resident families, friends, and community supporters.
Distinguished attendees slated to be present include MDVA Deputy Commissioner – Veterans Healthcare Eric Meittunen, Fergus Falls Veterans Home Administrator Jonathan Stone, Scott Kvamme of the Fergus Falls City Council Ward 2, and State Senator Jordan Rasmusson.
Bud Nornes, a long-time advocate for the Veterans Home and a former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, will also be there.
Following the parade, attendees will gather for an anniversary program around 10:45 a.m.
The event will feature a color guard presentation, musical performances by the Veterans Home Choir and the Carlisle Band, as well as a session for sharing memories of the home’s rich history.
Visitors can also enjoy historical displays throughout the event, offering a visual journey through the Veterans Home’s 25 years of service.
According to Jonathan Stone, the Fergus Falls Veterans Home Administrator, this celebration is a tribute to the commitment and dedication of the home to its residents.
“This event represents 25 years of exemplary service to our veterans. It’s a chance to remember the past and look forward to our future,” he stated.
Refreshments will be served following the program, which is expected to conclude around 11:30 a.m., giving attendees plenty of time to mingle and appreciate the festive atmosphere.
