Boy Dies at Summer Camp North of Vergas

Details are emerging from the fatal boat accident Thursday afternoon.

According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department, just after four Thursday afternoon, two juveniles were riding on an inner tube being pulled by a boat operated by a North Central Camp Cherith employee on Lake Six, just north of Vergas.

The juveniles fell off the tube and one juvenile male was accidentally struck by the boat as they were attempting to pick him up. Both juveniles were wearing personal flotation devices.

Life saving measures were unsuccessful and the injured boy was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No alcohol use to suspected, and no criminal charges are anticipated.

The investigation of the incident continues to be ongoing.

The names of the deceased and the operator the boat will be released at a later time.
