(Fargo, ND) — Fargo Police say an officer has died following a Friday afternoon shootout on the city’s south side.
Multiple witnesses reported a man opened fire on officers, who returned fire and killed the shooter.
Friday evening, investigators had shifted their focus to a residential neighborhood about two miles south of the shooting scene.
Police searched an apartment believed to be that of the shooter. Residents of the building were evacuated and told they may not be able to come back until sometime Saturday.
A police officer and the shooter died; police say two police officers were injured and are in critical condition, and two civilians also suffered injuries.
Authorities have not released details on what led up to the exchange of gunfire.
Fargo Police say they’ll hold a news conference at 3:30 this afternoon.
