Today, September 11th, is Patriot Day, a day of solemn remembrance.

To honor this day, the Fergus Falls Fire Department Honor Guard began conducting its annual Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony at 7:30 AM and it will continue until 9:30 AM.

Throughout the morning, moments of remembrance will take place at the flagpole, reflecting on the tragic events of September 11, 2001, which reshaped our nation’s history:

07:46 AM: We remember the moment when hijackers deliberately crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into floors 93 through 99 of the North Tower (1 WTC).

08:03 AM: Our hearts go out to those affected as we recall the moment when hijackers deliberately crashed United Airlines Flight 175 into floors 77 through 85 of the South Tower (2 WTC).

08:37 AM: We pay our respects to the victims and their families as we remember the hijackers deliberately crashing American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon, near Washington, D.C.

08:59 AM: We commemorate the bravery and resilience of those impacted as we recall the collapse of the South Tower (2 WTC).

09:03 AM: We honor the passengers of United Airlines Flight 93, who bravely launched a counterattack on the hijackers in an attempt to seize control of the aircraft after learning of the other attacks. In response, the hijackers crashed the plane into an empty field near Shanksville, Pa.

09:28 AM: We reflect on the moment when the North Tower (1 WTC) collapsed, leaving the 16-acre World Trade Center site in ruins, with collateral damage affecting all adjacent properties and streets. A heroic rescue and recovery effort began immediately.

Remember to honor the lives lost, the heroes who emerged, and the unity that defined our nation in the face of adversity.

Patriot Day serves as a reminder of our enduring strength and resilience as a nation.
