(St. Paul, MN) — Starting Monday, all adult residents in Minnesota will be eligible to obtain a driver’s license or permit.

Representative Aisha Gomez of Minneapolis sponsored the Driver’s License for All bill in the House.

She says “For decades up until 2003 people were able to demonstrate through a written and behind-the-wheel test that they understood the rules of the road and could safely operate a vehicle without regard to immigration status.”

Around 80 thousand people in the state are eligible for a driver’s license under the new law. Opponents warned that it encourages illegal immigration.
