On the morning of October 9, 2023, at 8:14 AM, the Dispatch Center of the Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency text message at 336 3rd St. in Campbell, MN, reporting a disturbance.

The distressed caller indicated the presence of a potential danger, mentioned the involvement of a bomb, and urgently requested immediate assistance.

In response to this alarming situation, multiple law enforcement agencies and emergency services responded.

The Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office and the Breckenridge Police Department swiftly deployed to the mentioned residence.

Along with the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Campbell Fire Department, and Ambulance Services Inc.

Due to the proximity of the incident to Campbell Public School, a precautionary measure was taken, resulting in the evacuation of the school premises because the residence was directly across the street from the school.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies and officers made contact with the occupants of the residence, Daniel McLaren Sr. and Mary Vry.

These individuals were promptly relocated to a secure location to ensure their safety.

Further assistance was sought from the Red River Valley Bomb Squad, which arrived equipped with a robot designed for the purpose of investigating and securing the area around the residence.

Fortunately, no hazardous devices were found, and it was determined that the residence was safe.

Subsequently, the Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the residence, revealing the presence of illegal substances, including methamphetamine and marijuana, as well as various pieces of drug paraphernalia.

As a result of the findings, Dan McLaren Sr. and Mary Vry were taken into custody and arrested on charges of 3rd-degree possession of methamphetamine within a school zone.

They were subsequently booked into the Wilkin County Jail.
