“Where to Eat” Episode 6 – Spanky’s Stone Hearth

Hello and Welcome to the 6th installment of “Where to Eat”, Brought to you by Vergas 66 Gas & Convenience in Vergas, MN.

The captivating culinary journey that continues to expand your where to eat horizons.

 

In this episode take a deep dive into beautiful location tucked away just outside of Vergas, MN to Spanky’s Stone Hearth.

We pulled out all the stops for this visit, going all in to check out the menu and really let the chef’s at Spanky’s do what they do best.

Spanky’s is a very unique restaurant, that simply put has a lakes country wow factor.

After you walk through the doors of the restaurant you immediately are struck, seeing an amazing wine selection, and all the beauty of the log building, the giant stone heart fire places and its location set overlooking the lake, makes it a great place for any event you may be planning. with plenty of space to accommodate.

Spanky’s Stone Hearth features an array of one of a kind meals, classic favorites, specials, season items as well as a rotating menu giving an ever changing experience.

You can also pick from a wide selection of Napa Valley wines and other reserve wines or pair your meal with one of their featured cocktails.

 

Your hosts Zakk Daniels and Dave Bishop invite you to join them as they make their way through the Spanky’s experience.

After talking with the owners, Zakk Daniels put his trust in the chefs and owners recommendations, The “Trust Me”.

You have to trust the chef and a surprise comes different every time.

Surprised with a hearty wedge salad with all the delightful add-ons.

For the main course, a Surf and turf of sorts.

It was pan seared Grouper(Fish) with tomato based cream sauce, on a bed of sauerkraut loaded mashed potatoes, a petite steak served medium rare, with chimichurri, and green beans.

 

Meanwhile, co-host Dave Bishop selected a patron favorite, The Stone Hearth Steak.

Dave started with a caesar salad with beets and shaved almonds and a balsalmic reduction.

A perfectly seared Filet Mignon wrapped in bacon and and savory reduction with cheesy Au gratin potatoes.

The gorgonzola and mushroom demi glaze was the perfect complement to the Filet Mignon.

 

 

 

Both Zakk and Dave also tried a few appetizers, staple signature flavors of the stone hearth menu, Chislic (Steak Bites), Halibut Fingers, Prime Rib Wontons,  and Beer Cheese Soup.

A multitude of flavors and choices to choose from, we had to try a few different things.

 

There were so many choices, we couldn’t settle on just one.

Dave and I had to try their Chislic steak bites with bleu cheese sauce, the light and flaky Halibut fish fingers garnished with lemons and a homemade tarter sauce, we had the pleasure as well of tasting a bit more exotic flavors with their prime rib won-tons topped with sauce and mixture of perfectly paired thinly sliced veg.

 

Spanky’s even brought out a side of sauteed mushrooms and onions and were de-glazed in a deep burgundy reduction.
