Knights Fall Short Against Eagles in 5-Set Quarterfinal Clash

In a thrilling quarterfinal matchup of the Class A State High School Volleyball Tournament on Thursday night, the West Central Area Knights faced off against the New Life Academy Eagles. The Eagles, seeded fourth, emerged victorious with a hard-fought 3-2 win (25-22, 16-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-12) over the fifth-seeded Knights.

Leading the charge for the lady Knights was Mya Foslien, delivering an impressive performance with 28 kills, 4 blocks, 21-of-22 serving, 2 aces, and 17 digs. Other standout players included Macy Grosz, Izzy Puchalski, Madelyn Westrom, and Whitney Westrom. The Knights, now set to face Pine River-Backus in a consolation semifinal match, displayed remarkable teamwork and resilience.

On the Eagles’ side, Makenna Lilly, Marissa Michaelis, and Arianna Twomey notched double-digit kills, contributing to their well-earned victory. The stage is now set for an exciting continuation of the tournament.

Ottertail Central Bulldogs Secure Semifinal Spot with 28-8 Win Over Cedar Mountain

In a thrilling quarterfinal showdown, the Ottertail Central Bulldogs secured their spot in the 9-Player semifinals with a commanding 28-8 victory over Cedar Mountain on Thursday in Buffalo. The Bulldogs, now boasting an 11-0 record, will face Nevis at 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 16, at US Bank Stadium.

The Bulldogs showcased their prowess with a 92-yard drive in the first quarter, highlighted by Mason Dalluge’s outstanding one-handed catch and Lane Dilly’s two-point conversion run. Dilly continued to make a significant impact with 168 rushing yards on 34 carries and four touchdowns.

Cedar Mountain, putting up a commendable fight, managed to cut the lead in half by halftime. However, the Bulldogs remained resilient, capping off a 14-play, 69-yard scoring drive in the third quarter to secure the win.

Little Eight Conference Recognizes Volleyball Standouts and Coach of the Year

Kallyn Grove, junior setter for the Underwood Rockets volleyball team, received the Most Valuable Player award in the Little Eight Conference. Grove played a pivotal role in leading the Rockets to a perfect 9-0 conference record and a runner-up finish in the Section 6A Tournament.

Heather Akerman, Battle Lake Assistant Coach, was honored as Coach of the Year, stepping in admirably for Head Coach Jenny Roisum. First Team All-Conference members included players from Underwood, Parkers Prairie, Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, Brandon-Evansville, Hancock, and Battle Lake.

Olson Oil Company Athlete of the Week – Lane Dilly

Senior Lane Dilly of the Ottertail Central football team earned the Olson Oil Company Athlete of the Week title following the Bulldogs’ Section 4 9-Player championship win. Dilly’s outstanding performance, including 204 rushing yards and four touchdowns, played a key role in the Bulldogs’ 34-12 victory over Border West.

Otter Bowlers Dominate Conference Tournament

The Otter bowlers, in both varsity and JV categories, showcased their excellence at the conference tournament held at Northern Aire Lanes. The varsity squad secured the championship by defeating Bemidji in the final match, while the JV team, Fergus Falls Maroon, claimed victory over Fergus Falls Black in a thrilling showdown.

Seniors Nolan Korby and Kaydence Knutson, along with Kyle Korby, played pivotal roles in the varsity team’s success. In the JV category, Brody Bray led Fergus Falls Maroon to victory with an impressive fill percentage, securing a memorable win for the team. The teams are now set to compete at the MHSB State Tournaments on November 18 and 19.
