(St. Paul, MN) — Property taxes across Minnesota could increase on average as much as 7.3 percent next year, according to preliminary levy numbers released by the state Revenue Department.
That is a statewide average, and taxes on individual properties could be higher or lower depending on location, property value and other factors.
The statewide averages show an 8.4 percent increase on the city portion of property taxes… 6 percent for the county portion…townships, 6.8 percent… and school districts, a 9 percent increase.
Truth-in-Taxation notices are mailed to individual property owners this month.
There’s then an opportunity for taxpayers to comment at public hearings listed on the notice. Local governments then must set their final property tax levies for next year by December 28th.
