(Undated) – The Minnesota Health Department is encouraging parents and caregivers to tune into what pediatricians are recommending about the best ways to keep babies safe while sleeping. MDH spokesperson Kathy Moore says they follow the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines, called the A-B-C’s of safe sleep.

Moore explains, “A, alone, infants should always sleep alone or nap alone. B, be on their back to sleep or nap, and then C, be in a crib that’s safety approved, this could be a play yard, a bassinet, or even a portable crib.” Moore says cribs should be empty of any pillows, blankets, or toys.

To keep warm during the winter, parents are urged to dress babies in pajamas or other clothes appropriate for the temperature.
