Otter Tail County Extension Welcomes New Educator

By Zakk Daniels Jan 2, 2024 | 11:08 AM

The Otter Tail County Extension offices would like to introduce their newest Extension Educator, Olivia Olson.

She will collaborate with the East Otter Tail and Wadena Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD) on education and outreach initiatives and supporting the County Master Gardener program.

In her new position, she will focus on agriculture and horticulture.

Olivia grew up in the Twin Cities and has worked with farmers, educators, and nonprofits in Vietnam, Virginia, and across Minnesota.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Food Systems and Global Studies from the University of Minnesota.

“We are very excited to welcome Olivia to Otter Tail County,” said Cecilia Amadou, Regional Director, Northwest MN.

“As we continue to expand and strengthen our team, we encourage you to reach out and connect with our new staff. Whether you have a project idea, a shared interest, or want to say hello, building connections is our top priority.”

Olson is passionate about growing food, being outdoors, and working to create a better world for current and future generations, particularly through food and agriculture.

Over the past several years, she has worked with various nonprofits and community partners to provide education and healthy food to communities and market access and support to local farmers.

She is a couple of generations off the farm but has been reconnecting with her family’s farming history and enjoys farming when possible.

She lives in Perham with her cat and looks forward to exploring beautiful Otter Tail County.

“I am excited for the opportunity to support and work with farmers to build more resilient farms and farmland for the present and future and continue to work in farm and natural resource education,” shared Olson.

“Don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, ideas, or suggestions.”

If you would like to connect with Olivia or get on her email listserv, please contact her at olso7655@umn.edu or 218-998-8303.

Olivia will work out of the New York Mills Extension Office and may also work in Fergus Falls and the SWCD Office in Perham.
