City of Fergus Falls Received National Finance Award

The City of Fergus Falls is pleased to announce it has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the year ended December 31, 2022.

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) presented this award to the City for demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure,” clearly communicating the city’s financial story and encouraging citizen review and engagement in the annual financial report.

City Administrator, Andrew Bremseth credits the city’s excellence in financial reporting to the city’s finance department, under the leadership of Finance Director, Bill Sonmor and Assistant City Finance Director, Sandy Cunningham.

“Bill and Sandy are meticulous about keeping the city’s finances in order. They are thorough, fair and transparent in all they do,” said Bremseth.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The GFOA award is judged by an impartial panel.

This is the 32nd year Fergus Falls has received this achievement.
