Yellowjackets Cruise Past Hornets with Sharp First-Half Shooting

In a commanding performance, the Perham girls’ basketball team showcased exceptional marksmanship in the first half on Tuesday night.

Connecting on 10 of their initial 12 three-point attempts, the team finished the half with an impressive 10-of-14 from beyond the arc.

Kaia Anderson and Willow Thiel both went 3-for-3 from deep, while Cora Grismer added two, and Kaia Starzl and Kennedy Pilgrim each knocked down one.

Perham dominated with a 44-18 lead at halftime, ultimately securing a convincing 77-49 victory over the Frazee Hornets.

Perham Head Coach TJ Super praised the team’s defensive efforts and efficient ball movement, emphasizing their impressive 16 made shots in the first half, with assists on 13 of them.

Thiel’s standout performance in the second half, contributing to a double-double with 30 points and 12 rebounds, led the team to success.

Grismer added 22 points, with Pilgrim and Anderson contributing 10 points each.

Frazee’s Jaden Sonnenberg led their scoring with 19 points, and Brynn Larson added 14.

Perham, now 12-2 (4-1 HOL), looks ahead to a home matchup with Pelican Rapids on Friday and a non-conference clash with Holdingford on Saturday. Frazee (4-5) is set to face DGF on Friday.

Arrows Display Sharp Shooting in 70-53 Victory over LPGE

The Ashby Arrows Boys Basketball team showcased their prowess behind the arc, connecting on an impressive 47% of their three-point shots in a 70-53 triumph over the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thunder.

Holding a 32-25 lead at halftime, Ashby demonstrated accuracy with 26 made field goals out of 60 attempts, including their standout performance from three-point range.

Freshman guard Traeton Nelson led all scorers with 24 points, supported by junior point guard Easton Nelson with 16 points and 6 assists. Kellen Dahlen contributed 13 points and secured a double-double with ten rebounds.

The balanced scoring continued with Jake Norby and Richie Johnson, adding 9 and 8 points, respectively.

Landon Middendorf led the Thunder with 20 points.

Ashby Head Coach John Holsten commended the team’s solid defense, particularly against LPGE’s post player David Liebsch.

With the win, Ashby improves to a 5-6 overall record, gearing up for a Thursday matchup against the Battle Lake Battlers.

Henning’s Dominant Performance, Shooting 62% from the Field

Henning delivered a dominant performance in their home game against Verndale, securing a commanding 87-32 victory.

Head Coach Randy Misegades praised the team’s effort on both ends of the court, highlighting their solid defense and balanced offense.

The Yellowjackets shot an impressive 62% from the field, making 39 of 62 attempts, including 6-of-16 from beyond the arc.

Five players reached double figures, led by Kale Misegades with 22 points, Teigan Bjerke with 15, and Noah Umland with 14. Logan Kostelecky and Lane Dilly contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Henning demonstrated dominance on the boards with Dilly and Kostelecky each grabbing 7 rebounds.

The team totaled 19 steals, assisted on 26 baskets, and blocked 5 shots.

Verndale, led by Jaden Schulke with 11 points, struggled against Henning’s relentless defense.

With a 10-2 overall record, Henning remains undefeated in five Park Region Conference games, preparing for matchups against New York Mills and Ada-Borup/West.

Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Secures Seventh Straight Win against Parkers Prairie

Hillcrest Lutheran Academy displayed a strong defensive effort in a 77-37 victory over Parkers Prairie in a Little Eight Conference boys’ basketball contest.

Head Coach Ryan Garvin commended the team for their tone-setting defensive performance, holding Parkers Prairie to just 37 points.

No individual statistics were reported for Parkers Prairie, but Hillcrest’s Noah Brumfield led the way with 24 points and 5 rebounds.

Luke Christensen contributed 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists, while Ethan Swedberg added 12 points and 6 rebounds.

The Comets improved their record to 7-1 (4-0 LEC) and are set to play Rothsay on Thursday and Park Christian in Moorhead on Saturday.

Otters Hold Off Bemidji Comeback for 46-44 Win

The Fergus Falls girls’ basketball team secured a hard-fought 46-44 victory over the Bemidji Lumberjacks. Holding a substantial 28-10 halftime lead, the Otters had to withstand a furious Bemidji comeback, ultimately prevailing with a narrow margin.

Sophomore guard Alivia Thompson played a crucial role in the first half, limiting Bemidji’s leading scorer, Brynn Sternberg.

Despite Sternberg’s 16 points and a double-double, the Otters managed to hold on for the win.

Fergus Falls improved to 8-3 with their fourth consecutive victory, gearing up for matchups against Breckenridge and Willmar.

Lakers Finish Strong, Defeat Otters 67-55

In a closely contested boys’ basketball game, the Detroit Lakes Lakers finished strong with an 18-5 run to secure a 67-55 victory over the Fergus Falls Otters.

The game featured eight lead changes and five ties, showcasing the competitive nature of the matchup.

Henry Bethel led the Otters with 25 points, including six made 3-pointers.

Despite Fergus Falls’ efforts, the Lakers, now 10-1, extended their winning streak to four games.

Devon Berg played a key role, scoring 18 of his 25 points in the second half, as the Lakers forced 19 turnovers. Fergus Falls (5-4) is set to host Sauk Rapids-Rice on Thursday night.

Hancock Overcomes Halftime Deficit, Edges Rockets 56-55

In a thrilling Little Eight Conference girls’ basketball clash, the Hancock Owls overcame a halftime deficit to defeat the Underwood Rockets 56-55.

Trailing 33-22 at halftime, Hancock staged a comeback to secure the narrow victory.

Liz Lukken led the Rockets with 22 points, but it was not enough to prevent Hancock (11-1, 7-0 LEC) from maintaining their impressive record.

Underwood (9-2, 6-1 LEC) will look to bounce back in their game against Hillcrest on Friday, while Hancock hosts Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Friday night.

Knights hit 12 threes, score 55 first half points

The West Central Area Knights demonstrated exceptional teamwork and sharpshooting in their 86-53 victory over Benson.

Hitting an astounding 55 points in the first half, the Knights showcased their offensive prowess with 12 three-pointers made by seven different players.

Coach Kraig Hunter commended the team’s focus and balanced effort, with Marshall Dewey leading the scoring with 16 points. Bryce Kjesbo and Mitch Dewey contributed 15
