The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Posse received a plaque for the Gratitude on Repeat Award on Friday, January 19th.
Dave Bishop with KBRF presented the award to Jerry Thurman, the Captain of the Sheriff’s Posse, at the Otter Tail County Court House.
Otter Tail County Sheriff, Barry Fitzgibbons, said at the presentation, “The work they (the Sheriff’s Posse) do is phenomenal. They’re giving up their weekends to make sure we’re able to do our job. When we’ve got a critical incident, we know we can count on them to come and help us.
The Sheriff’s Posse works under the direct supervision of the Otter Tail County Sheriff and serves as a reserve force to fill manpower shortages in times of civil emergency or disaster situations.
Their normal duties include traffic direction, parking control, and security services at scheduled events throughout the county, as well as horse-mounted and ATV/ Snowmobile search and rescue operations.
Some of the more noticeable events that the Sheriff’s Posse works include the Phelps Mill Art Festival, East and West Otter Tail County Fairs, and the Dalton Thresherman’s Reunion.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Posse will receive a thirteen week advertising campaign to recruit volunteers.
Past winners include Someplace Safe, Habitat for Humanity, Otter Cove, The Fergus Falls Salvation Army, The Fergus Falls Senior Center, and the Humane Society of Otter Tail County.
