The Battle Lake FFA excels at – Career Development Events (CDE’s) So far this year, the Battle Lake FFA has qualified 6 teams for the state convention at the end of April. The officer team excels at getting new members involved. At our monthly meetings we have a social event based on the month. In September we had a bonfire, October we had pumpkin carving, November was Friendsgiving (we had a full turkey/ham dinner for all the members), December the students built gingerbread houses. Each month is something new to encourage students to come to the meetings.
Upcoming fundraisers: We do the typical late fall fruit sales, but we make a good profit on our FFA Garden. We raise pumpkins, squash, watermelons and sweet corn. This year we had about 4 acres of sweet corn that we sold at a stand at the Battle Lake Standard Station. We had about half an acre of pumpkins that we sold at the same place. It was a lot of work this summer with the lack of rain, but we still had a good selling season.
On February 9th before the Boy’s Basketball game, the Battle Lake FFA is holding a pie social to anyone in attendance. It is a free will offering and all proceeds will go to charity.
Before Christmas we had an in-school competition called Penny Wars. Each grade was encouraged to bring in pennies. The grade with the highest total earned a pizza lunch for the whole class. This event raised almost $400 which was given to the Battle Lake School Fund which then bought new winter clothing for students in our school who needed it.
How to join: Anyone interested in joining can contact Bill or Dan at the Battle Lake School at 218 864-5215 or at dukkelberg@isd542.org/bklaers@isd542.org. Students can join at any time, students within the district who homeschool are welcome to join as well.
