Despite a resilient effort from the Battlers, Sebeka held on for a 53-48 victory. Kenady Cameron showcased her scoring prowess, leading all scorers with an impressive 26 points, supported by Madi Cameron and Sophie Akerman with 6 points each. Annika Pulju led the charge for Sebeka, contributing 18 points to secure the win.
Battle Lake gears up for a Little Eight Conference battle against Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in Graceville, followed by a home match against Hillcrest. Meanwhile, Sebeka (7-12) is set to face Pillager on Tuesday and host Wadena-Deer Creek on Friday.
Verndale Stage Second-Half Comeback to Defeat Ashby 76-64
In a thrilling encounter, the Verndale Pirates rallied from a halftime deficit to clinch a 76-64 victory over the Ashby Arrows. Ashby held a 28-23 lead at halftime, but Verndale’s resilience shone through. Point guard Easton Nelson led the charge for Ashby with 24 points, supported by Kellen Dahlen with 18 points and Jake Norby with 10. Verndale showcased balanced scoring, with four players reaching double figures. Jaden Schulke led the charge with 18 points, followed by Carter White and Braylin DeLeon with 16 points each, while Otto Lehmann added 13 points off the bench. The game’s outcome was significantly influenced by Verndale’s strong performance at the free-throw line, making 21 of 29 attempts compared to Ashby’s 2 of 6.
Ashby now prepares for a road challenge against Battle Lake on Tuesday.
Pelican Rapids Secures Victory Over Wadena-Deer Creek Behind Korf and Roisum’s 23 Points Each
Pelican Rapids continued their winning streak with a commanding 60-46 victory over Wadena-Deer Creek. Morgan Korf and Anna Roisum led the charge for the lady Vikings, each contributing 23 points. Korf showcased her all-around skills with 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and 5 steals, while Roisum dominated defensively with 3 blocks and 7 rebounds. Ellie Welch added 9 points and 9 rebounds to bolster Pelican Rapids’ performance. Wadena-Deer Creek’s efforts were led by Montana Carsten with 15 points, supported by Payton Gravelle and Jada Dykhoff with 10 points apiece.
Wadena-Deer Creek (14-9) looks ahead to a home clash against Menahga and an away game against Sebeka. Pelican Rapids (22-2, 10-1 HOL) continues their impressive form with an 11-game winning streak, next hosting Perham.

Belind Alemadi, guard for Minnesota State Community and Technical College, earned recognition as the MCAC South Division Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week. Alemadi’s outstanding performance included scoring 57 points, shooting 51.1% from the field and 40% from behind the arc. Additionally, he contributed 19 rebounds, six assists, four steals, and two blocks in the Spartans’ two games during the week. Alemadi’s stellar season sees him on the brink of scoring his 300th point.
Three Otters Swimmers Earn All-Conference Honorable Mention at CLC Meet
Sartell-St. Stephen claimed victory in the Boys Central Lakes Conference team championship, with Fergus Falls showcasing notable performances in various events. Reece Hansen, Matthew Tuel, and Jaden Kwapinski received All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition for their exceptional performances. The meet saw impressive displays of skill and determination from Fergus Falls and Alexandria swimmers across multiple events.

The M State Men’s Basketball team delivered an impressive performance, securing a decisive 91-70 victory over Western Technical College. The Spartans showcased their dominance, trailing only once in the game at 12-11. With a halftime lead of 46-37, M State maintained their momentum, leading by as much as 25 points in the second half. With this crucial win, M State (13-11, 5-6 MCAC South) finds themselves tied for the fourth playoff spot in the South division, setting the stage for an intense showdown against Ridgewater with playoff implications.
