The McLeod County Board of Commissioners held a special meeting Saturday February 10th to pass a resolution opposing the North S.T.A.R. Act.
The North S.T.A.R. Act is a proposed state legislation that would halt collaboration between local police and federal immigration, in an attempt to protect immigrant rights.
The bill would also give Minnesota a “sanctuary state” status.
Over 130 members of the public attended this special meeting, and when the board unanimously voted to oppose the bill, the audience gave a standing ovation.
In regards to the North S.T.A.R. Act, Senate Democratic Majority Leader Erin Murphy said, “We’ll see if it get heard. We’ll see if there’s support for it.”
