[Fergus Falls, MN] Lake Region Healthcare (LRH) announced Monday (February 19th)that it has been recognized as a 2024 Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital by The Chartis Center for Rural Health.

Chartis’ annual Top 100 award program recognizes outstanding performance among the nation’s rural hospitals based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®.

This marks the seventh time since 2016 LRH has achieved the distinction.

“This recognition is well-deserved for all the people who work hard on behalf of the communities and the region we serve to ensure safe, high-quality care is available close to home,” said LRH CEO Kent Mattson. “Merit based awards like this should inspire confidence in our patients, when the work of our teams is validated by an outside resource like Chartis which is adept at measuring the important data and outcomes that highlight the exceptionally strong competencies of our rural healthcare organization.”

“During an era of profound uncertainty for rural healthcare, the Top 100 rural hospitals continue to provide a unique lens through which we can identify innovation and inspiration for how to deliver high quality care to increasingly vulnerable populations,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader, The Chartis Center for Rural Health.

Now in its 14th year, the INDEX is the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance.

Featuring a methodology utilizing publicly available data, the INDEX is leveraged nationwide by rural hospitals, health systems with rural affiliates, hospital associations, and state offices of rural health to measure and monitor performance across a variety of areas impacting hospital operations and finance.

Mattson added the timing of this year’s recognition is especially meaningful given the prevailing strong headwinds facing the healthcare industry and the organization.

“Earning this award again is a testament to the dedication of our healthcare teams in continuing to take compassionate care of our patients, most of whom are our friends, family, and neighbors,“ he said. “Amidst all the changes we must undertake, we will continue to strive for excellence in all that we do. With the support and the loyalty of the communities we serve, and strong direction from our Board of Trustees, we look forward to continuing our mission to enrich life through health and achieve our vision for our people to excel and communities to thrive, for years to come.”
