The Fergus Falls City Council convened for its regular meeting on February 20th, with Mayor Ben Schierer and all council members present, including Anthony Hicks, Laura Job, Scott Kvamme, Tom Rufer, Al Kremeier, Brent Thompson, Jim Fish, and Scott Rachels.
Among the key decisions made during the meeting:
- Inflatable Rescue Boat Acquisition: The Fergus Falls Fire Department was authorized to procure an inflatable rescue boat along with necessary communications and training materials, with funding secured from trust funds and donations.
- DeLagoon Campground Improvements: Plans for improvements to the DeLagoon Campground were approved, and the advertising of bids was authorized.
- Glacial Edge Trail Grant Application: The council authorized a grant application, in collaboration with Otter Tail County, to secure funding for the Glacial Edge Trail project.
- Municipal Airport Mowing Tractor: A grant from MnDOT was accepted to facilitate the purchase of a mowing tractor for use at the Municipal Airport.
- 2024 Seal Coat Projects: Plans for the 2024 seal coat projects were approved, and the advertising of bids was authorized.
- Replacement of Water Service Lines: A grant application to the MN Department of Health was authorized to assist in funding the replacement of lead/galvanized water service lines.
- Revolving Loan Fund Expansion: The council approved a grant application aimed at expanding the revolving loan fund for Business Development in Fergus Falls.
- Engineering Proposals: Interstate Engineering’s proposal was accepted for plans regarding the potential demolition of a decommissioned ground water storage facility and the implementation of a unidirectional flushing system to enhance drinking water quality.
- Vegetative Management: The use of goats for vegetative management of invasive species was approved.
- Ordinance Introductions: Two ordinances were introduced: one related to Tree Management, streamlining language, and eliminating redundancies; the other amending the definition of “hotel” in the zoning code to remove the requirement for full-time staffing at the front desk.
