Fergus Falls Food Shelf Looking for Help Durring National Food Share Month

By Dave Bishop Mar 25, 2024 | 1:47 PM

The final push for the March food shelf campaign is on. Christie Dickey with the Fergus Falls Area Food Shelf, says this campaign really helps stock the shelves, when they serve so many families. Christy says on a yearly basis, “We serve about 15,000 individuals, that’s from children to senior citizens.  And we distribute about 110,000 pounds of food.”

Dickey said that the Fergus Falls Food Shelf relies on help of volunteers. “Last year the food shelf had about 6,000 volunteer hours, most of which were from retired people from our community giving back.”

The food shelf has a goal of raising $63,000 during this March food campaign.

With March being national food share month, your donations go further.  According to Dickey, “Minnesota food share and the Feinstein Corporation provide a percentage match to us. We’ll receive a check a few months after we’ve reported what we received, both in donations of food and of cash.”

You can help by dropping off a donation at the food shelf, they’re open Wednesdays and Fridays, and take donations from 12:30 to 4:00.

The food shelf starts serving clients from 1:00 to 4:00.

You can also mail in your donations to Food Shelf, post office box 136, Fergus Falls MN 56537.
