45-year-old Matthew Ecker of Fergus Falls has been sentenced to 30 years for the shooting death of his girlfriend in 2022.
Ecker was found guilty on February 16th, and received his sentence on April 4th.
After an eight-day trial, it took a Ramsey county jury just seven hours to convict Ecker of the Second-Degree Murder of 32-year old Alexandra Lee Penning. Penning was shot in the head on December 16th, 2022, in her St. Paul apartment.

Ramsey County District Judge DeAnne Hilgers presided over the trial.
Assistant Ramsey County Attorney Gordan Knoblach had said back in February, that Ecker faces a presumptive sentence of 25 and a half years in prison, based on the severity level of the offense and no prior criminal history.
Ecker will be serving his sentence out at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.
