The Fergus Falls Public Library is excited to announce the launch of the Warren and Jannette Lowe Arts, Culture, and Travel Collection.

The Fergus Falls Public Library Foundation received a benevolent donation from the Warren and Jannette Lowe estate.

Library Director Gail Hedstrom said, “After meeting with the estate executors and learning more about the Lowes, we determined that developing a library collection that reflected what the Lowes enjoyed would honor their memory.”

For the next five years, the library staff will develop a collection that provides library users with increased access to materials relating to Arts, Culture, and Travel.

Because the Lowes were also curling enthusiasts you will see additional curling resources.

The collection editions will span all age groups and include fiction, nonfiction, print, audio, and visual materials.

Recent acquisitions to the children’s collection include nonfiction books on all 50 states, resources on the seven continents, more than 30 countries, national parks, ancient civilizations, music, cultural cuisine, world festivals, music, and art.

Hedstrom said, “More than 150 new books have been added to the children’s collection.”

In the adult section, fiction additions will focus on classics, literary fiction, books translated from other languages, foreign languages, and works about art, travel, and culture.

The Lowe funds will also allow library staff to replace titles in poor condition.

Recently added Lowe Collection fiction includes: “House of Caravan” by Shilp Suneja, “Final Curtain” by Keig Higashini, “Yellow Face” by R. F. Kuang, “Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love” by Oscar Jijuelos.

More than 100 print books and many audiobooks have been added to the collection.

Titles added to the nonfiction section include “Honouring High Places” by Junk Tabei, “Lonely Planet Epic Snow Adventures of the World,” “Making Music in Montessori,” by Michael Johnson, “The Power of Art,” by Caroline Campbell, and of course, a nice selection of books on curling.

“Each item purchased with Lowe Collection funds has a distinct label inside the front cover of the book. You can also search for items in the collection using the library’s online catalog,” explained Hedstrom.

The Library foundation has dedicated funds for the collection for the next five years, after which they will re-evaluate collection needs.

“The Foundation board is working on other Lowe fund projects that will be very exciting,” said Hedstrom.

Hedstrom shared, “The Lowe Arts, Culture, and Travel collection is an example of how people’s generosity can positively impact a community for generations. We are so grateful for this gift and the opportunity to share these Collection additions with the public.”
