Detroit Lakes, MN (KFGO) – The stepmother of Minnesota State Senator Nicole Mitchell told a Becker County Emergency Dispatcher that she had armed herself with a small steak knife after someone broke into her Detroit Lakes home early Monday morning.

A transcript of the 911 call, released through an open records request from KFGO News, said the person who broke into the home was on the floor of the stepmother’s bedroom.

The caller told the dispatcher that she nearly tripped over the intruder, who then ran downstairs to the basement.

Mitchell, a Democrat from Woodbury, is charged with felony burglary.
