Fergus Falls, MN – City Forrester Andy Nelson was joined by representatives from the Park Board, the Natural Resources Advisory Committee and city staff as they planted eight new trees in Grotto Park on Wednesday, May 1st.

The planting marked the occasion of Arbor Day, which was last Friday, but inclement weather called for a rain delay.

Nelson said of the eight trees planted Wednesday, there are three varieties – four are disease resistant Triumph Elm, two are Common Hackberry and two are Northern Acclaim Honey Locust.

The Grotto Park location was selected this year because several Elm trees were lost due to Dutch Elm Disease.

“This is our 46th year as a Tree City USA,” said Nelson.

This spring, the City of Fergus Falls planted 140 trees.
