Fergus Falls, MN – On Thursday, May 30th, there will be a suicide awareness and prevention event at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center starting at 5 in the evening.

The “Sharing Hope and Light in Our Community” event is meant to foster conversations about suicide awareness, lifelines for prevention, and the role of nature in mental health.

The event will kick off at 5 pm, with keynote speaker Aaron Cadayong, the Suicide Prevention Regional Coordinator at Lakeland Mental Health Center.

Following his presentation, there will be a brat feed and outdoor activities at 6 pm.

Then at 7 pm, there will be a discussion panel featuring Dave McRoberts, Kay and Stuart Tommerdahl, Dr. Dan Taiser, Beth Rader, and Aaron Cadayong, with the event wrapping up at 8 pm.

The goal is to normalize the discussion of mental health issues and break the stigma around them that keeps individuals suffering in silence.

The event is sponsored by Sunrise Rotary, the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center, Lake Region Heathcare, Lakeland Mental Health Center, and the Friends of the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center.

If you have suicidal thoughts, please reach out to the 24/7 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling 988.
