Detroit Lakes, MN (KXRA) – The ongoing criminal investigation into State Senator Nicole Mitchell has taken a new turn.

Court documents filed Tuesday in Becker County indicate “suspected controlled substances” have been sent to the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension crime lab for testing.

The court filing did not specify where the substances were found or how they are related to Mitchell’s arrest.

Mitchell was taken into custody on April 22nd at a relative’s home in Detroit Lakes and charged with burglary.

Mitchell has denied any wrongdoing and says she will not resign from the Senate.
