Perham, MN – Starting Monday, May 13th, weather permitting, motorists will encounter lane closures and delays on Highway 10 in both directions west of Perham, as crews begin construction of a J-turn at the intersection of Highway 10 and County Road 60, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The project will be constructed in stages to minimize commuter impacts, and one lane of traffic in each direction on Highway 10 and County Road 60 will remain open throughout construction.

The project is expected to be complete in July.

A J-turn is a type of reduced conflict intersection, converting side street through-travel and left-turn movements into right turns, followed by a U-turn.

J-turns have been proven to improve safety by reducing crash potential at intersections.

According to MnDOT, at the Highway 10 and County Road 60 intersection, side street left turns and through-movements are the most common generator of serious crashes.

Hough, Inc., based out of Detroit Lakes, is the prime contractor for the $1.1 million project.
